In Nomine Ensemble is a New York City-based early music group featuring Hanbyeol Lee (harpsichord), Jimmy Drancsak (Baroque violin), Mei Stone (Baroque flute), and Morgan Davison (Baroque bassoon). As graduates of The Juilliard School, they bring together diverse musical backgrounds to challenge traditional Baroque performance practices with their distinctive instrumentation. The name ‘In Nomine’ translates to "in the name of," reflecting the ensemble's belief that music can be performed in the name of anything—love, grief, anger, revival, joy, or power. While performing on historically accurate instruments, the ensemble seeks to craft new and innovative sounds from these ancestral tools, promoting flexibility, development, and inclusion through their performances. Each member has performed individually at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Italian Academy at Columbia University, Cultuurkoepel Heiloo, Lebuïnuskerk Deventer, Smetana Hall, and Amare Den Haag. They have also been featured at renowned programs including the Boston Early Music Festival, Music Before 1800, and the Aspen Music Festival. Their training extends beyond classical and Baroque music, encompassing American, Scottish, and East Asian traditional music. In Nomine explores both familiar and lesser-known Renaissance and Baroque works with a spirit of playfulness and curiosity. In the name of equity, curiosity, and identity, they challenge the traditional Baroque trio sonata with their innovative instrumentation and perspectives, all while maintaining historically informed performance practices. Through their interactive concerts and Instagram presence, they highlight underrepresented composers and recontextualize Baroque works for modern audiences. The ensemble has received support from The Juilliard School, Gotham Early Music Scene, Pegasus Early Music, and Silentwoods Collective. They have been featured artists with Sacred Music at Columbia University, The Bohemians Musician Club NYC, and Off the Dock Chamber Festival in Skaneateles, New York. In Nomine Ensemble has also participated in artist residency programs with Les Arts Florissants - Odyssée program, and the Avaloch Farm Music Institute. Committed to making early music more accessible, In Nomine offers both in-person and online performances and recordings, fostering a strong sense of community. Since 2022, they have curated an annual Early Music Advent Calendar series. Follow them on Instagram @innomineensemble
